Buffalo horn & mother of pearl
Saigon Mart began as a small trading office in District 1, buying horn combs and shell inlay from workshops around Saigon and selling them to visiting buyers. Today we do the same thing with more rigour: we keep our own stock, grade it, photograph it, and ship it to homes and businesses in Europe, Asia and North America.
Our catalogue is deliberately narrow. Spoons, forks and knife handles. Bowls and plates. Combs and buttons. Sculptural decorative pieces. These are the categories our workshops make well and can repeat at volume, which matters more to a wholesale buyer than a catalogue of a thousand novelties.
Everything we make travels from Vietnam to our European warehouse in Portugal, from where our Portuguese company invoices and ships every retail order: 2 to 3 business days in Portugal, 4 to 7 across the EU and 7 to 14 for the rest of the world.
Wholesale works differently. Requests come to our Portuguese office and are passed directly to the parent company in Vietnam, which produces, invoices and exports the order. The catalogue lists minimum order quantities and reference pricing; lead times are always confirmed in your quotation.
How we work
Responsible sourcing
Horn is a by-product of local buffalo farming and shell comes from aquaculture. Nothing is taken from protected species, and every shipment travels with the documentation importers need.
Hand finishing
Each piece is sawn, flattened, shaped, sanded and polished by hand. Machines help with rough cuts; the finish is always human.
Honest variation
We photograph representative pieces rather than idealised ones, and we grade batches so buyers know what tone range to expect.
Fair workshops
We work with a small number of long-standing family workshops, pay per finished piece and plan production so nobody is asked for impossible weeks.
